Funso Doherty

Funso Doherty is the candidate for Lagos State Governor in the 2023 elections, on the platform of the African Democratic Congress, (ADC).

An accomplished Professional with a distinguished record spanning three decades, Funso previously served as the Pioneer MD/CEO of ARM Pension Managers and MD/CEO of Pensions Alliance Limited (PAL Pensions), leading two of Nigeria’s foremost Pension Fund Management Companies with diverse, nationwide teams overseeing large portfolios of assets. He served as Pioneer Chairman of the Pension Fund Operators Association (PENOP), the umbrella body of licensed Pension Fund Managers and Custodians in Nigeria.

Over the course of his career, Funso has also held several positions in leading foreign and local firms including Goldman Sachs & Company and PNC Advisors in the United States of America and ACA and Arthur Andersen (now KPMG) in Nigeria. He is a co-founding Trustee of the CFA Society Nigeria and a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria.

Funso holds a Master’s in Business Administration (MBA) from Harvard University and a B. Sc. in Accounting from the University of Lagos.

He was born in 1968 to the Doherty family of Lagos Island. His father Dr Henry Doherty was one of the early Nigerian medical doctors and his grandfather, J. H. Doherty, known as the prince merchant of Alakoro, was a prominent businessman and philanthropist in Old Lagos.

Funso is married to Dr Orode Doherty, née Williams, a Paediatrician and public health physician and they are blessed with three awesome children
