Dr. Amina Salihu

Amina Salihu is a feminist, farmer, and philanthropist. She is acting Deputy Director of the MacArthur Foundation Africa office. Amina taught public policy in the Political Science Department of the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria (1993-2000). A serial innovator and policy consultant, Amina’s areas of interest are gender, inclusion, politics, and policy.

 

She holds a PhD in Public Policy from the University of Abuja. Amina’s PhD thesis formed the fulcrum of the National Assembly gender policy, working with the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies. Amina designed the digital Nigeria National Sexual Offender Database for reporting sexual offences and support services (2018). As senior special assistant to the minister of Nigeria’s federal capital, FCT (2004-2007), Amina designed the FCT town hall and helpline system. Amina has written essays, chapters and articles on women’s and girls’ rights, security, business environment, accountability, and disability rights. She is a member of the International and National Political Science Associations and a member of the Chartered Institute of Management Consultants (CIMC).

 

As honorary adviser to the private sector, government, UKAid, UN and EU systems, Amina served as Chair of the technical working group on gender, employment and inclusion of the Nigeria Agenda 2050 visioning process (2021), as a member of the Governing Council of Ekiti State University (2018-2022), a pioneer Dean of Faculty of the unconventional School of Politics, Policy and Governance (2021) www.thesppg.org and member of the board of GSK Nigeria plc 2021-2023). Amina chairs Hadis Foundation Board of Trustees and also sits on the Advisory Board of the West Africa Civil Society Institute (WACSI).
